Mike began trucking in 1975 at just 21 years old. Now 72 and still going strong, he brings more than 51 years of transportation experience to the team.
Join the MovementHe started as a Teamster Local 701 driver. After his employer lost a General Motors contract and laid him off, Mike looked at his infant daughter and decided he would not return home until he found a job or created one. He created one.
Mike began delivering packages from the back of his car. Within two months, he owned four straight trucks. Within a year, he had expanded into tractors and trailers. At the height of his career, his company operated approximately 240 power units, more than 300 trailers, terminals in New Jersey and Florida, large maintenance facilities, cold storage operations, and acres of commercial property.
His company served major corporations, supported AT&T disaster recovery operations throughout the eastern United States, including during 9/11. Mike remembers an industry built on published freight rates, professional expectations, strong drivers, and brokers who performed a legitimate service instead of controlling the marketplace.
Mike brings historic knowledge, business leadership, fleet experience, Teamster experience, and the perspective of someone who personally witnessed what trucking was before its professional standards were dismantled.
"I have spent more than 50 years in this business. Experience teaches you how to read people. I believe God has His hand on David's life, and I believe he has been called to help bring this industry back together. That is why I stand behind David, McCownUSA, and AFFTRA."
